Four-dimensional Integration: Research Feeding Back Teaching — A Case Study of Monograph on Chinese Materia Medica Processing for TCM Postgraduates

    Abstract: Pivotal national policies on TCM Revitalization drive the in-depth modernization and industrialization of TCM. This trend sets a new training standard for postgraduates in CMM. TCM higher education is confronted with structural dilemmas: separation between tradition and cutting-edge progress, disconnection of theory from practice, and imbalance between research and talent cultivation. Research-driven teaching, which integrates frontier findings, innovative thinking, scientific methods and platform resources into teaching to update curricula, reform teaching modes, upgrade facilities and improve education quality, is the core solution to existing problems. To maximize its value, we must move beyond simple transformation of individual research outcomes and build an integrated education system, so as to realize the goals of advancing teaching via research, integrating research and teaching, and prioritizing talent cultivation. Taking Special Topics on Processing of CMM as the practice carrier, this study follows the university motto and the TCM education philosoph. It constructs a four-dimensional teaching framework integrating platform, content, methodology and ideological and political education. Combined with the 0000, PBL, TBL and project-based teaching, it forms a full-chain mechanism: converting research achievements into teaching resources, embedding research thinking into teaching approaches, expanding research platforms into teaching bases, and exploring ideological and political elements from research. Four major achievements have been made: a forward-looking curriculum system, research-oriented teaching modes, multi-functional supporting platforms and collaborative education mechanisms. Students have seen comprehensive improvements in research ability, innovation and professionalism. This practice offers a model for postgraduate curriculum reform in CMM, and supports the cultivation of high-caliber innovative TCM talents for the new era.
