Abstract: Objective This study aims to explore historical records of traditional Chinese medicine in the teaching of human parasitology courses, integrating Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and mind mapping in the instructional process to develop an innovative teaching model. Methods First, utilize the research history of traditional Chinese medicine on parasites to stimulate students interest in learning this course; then, teach the fundamental aspects of parasites from the perspective of Western medicine; finally, employ mind mapping to construct a learning framework, establish connections between knowledge points of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and better apply the integrated approach to the teaching process of this course. Results Survey and statistical results show that in the reform integrating mind mapping with the combined teaching approach of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, students have demonstrated high interest in learning traditional Chinese medicine knowledge, and have achieved notable improvements in self-directed learning, learning efficiency, and academic performance. Conclusion The teaching reform model developed in this study has enhanced students self-directed learning abilities and promoted the effective integration and interaction between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine courses.
