Analysis of Two Misdiagnosed Cases of Bronchial Foreign Bodies in Adults with a Literature Review

  Abstract: Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics, causes of misdiagnosis, and diagnostic and treatment strategies for bronchial foreign bodies in adults, with the aim of improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment. Methods: Analyzed two cases of bronchial foreign bodies in adults, which were characterized by chronic cough and were prone to misdiagnosis, and conducted a comprehensive analysis in conjunction with relevant domestic and international literature. Results: Both cases were characterized by chronic cough with recurrent symptoms. The foreign bodies were identified and removed via bronchoscopy, and both patients recovered following antimicrobial therapy. Conclusion: Bronchial foreign bodies in adults present with insidious clinical manifestations and a high rate of misdiagnosis. For patients with recurrent chronic cough or those who respond poorly to antimicrobial therapy, the possibility of an airway foreign body should be strongly suspected, and bronchoscopy should be performed as early as possible to confirm the diagnosis.
