Research Progress on the Treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction Using External Therapies in Traditional Chinese Medicine

• 摘要：睑板腺功能障碍(MGD)为目前临床中的多发病及常见病,是最常见的眼科疾病之一,临床以眼干、眼痛、视物模糊等为主要表现。本病患病率高,任何年龄阶段均可发病,且中老年高发。MGD因其发病病因复杂,临床症状多样,故在临床中有起病隐匿、病程长等特点,严重影响患者的生活质量及身心健康。现今西医多局限于眼表局部对症干预,仅可短期缓解眼部症状,而中医外治法作为中医药的一种独特疗法,不仅种类多样,具有安全、高效、绿色的特点,且在治疗本病方面存在显著的优势。现查阅近年来包括中药熏蒸、中药雾化、针刺、雷火灸、穴位按摩等在内的常用中医外治法治疗MGD的相关文献并进行综述,以期为临床治疗提供有益参考。

  Abstract: Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a prevalent and common disease in clinical practice and represents one of the most frequently encountered ophthalmic disorders. Its primary clinical manifestations include dry eye, ocular pain, and blurred vision. MGD has a high prevalence, can occur at any age, and is particularly common in middle-aged and elderly populations. Due to its complex etiology and diverse clinical symptoms, MGD is characterized by insidious onset and a protracted course, which significantly impair patients’ quality of life and physical and mental health. Current Western medicine treatments are largely limited to topical symptomatic interventions on the ocular surface, providing only short-term relief of ocular symptoms. In contrast, external therapies of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), as a distinctive modality of TCM, are not only diverse but also safe, effective, and environmentally friendly, demonstrating significant advantages in the treatment of this disease. This article reviews recent literature on commonly used TCM external therapies for MGD, including Chinese herbal fumigation, Chinese herbal nebulization, acupuncture, thunder-fire moxibustion, and acupoint massage, with the aim of providing a useful reference for clinical management.
