Study on the Effect of Online Health Services Delivery on Doctors Offline Performance

Abstract: This research collected online data from Good Doctor Online, combined with the performance data of doctors in a level-three general hospital. This research studied the spillover effect of online health service delivery on the offline performance of doctors. Doctors opened the personal homepage in the sample hospital was taken as the treatment group. Those who did not open personal homepage was taken as the control group. The Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method was used to match the observed individuals, and the Difference-in-difference (DID) method was used to verify whether the online medical service had an impact on the offline performance of doctors. The research shows that the opening of online health services has a significant impact on the increase of doctors annual outpatient volume, as well as on the increase of doctors annual medical revenue. Therefore, the health management departments should regulate the doctors’ behavior, promote the development of traditional medical service system by innovating online health service.
