Research progress on the relationship between miRNA and tumor-associated macrophages in glioma

    Abstract: Gliomas are the most common malignant tumors in the central nervous system. Tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs), as an important part of the tumor immune microenvironment, initially play an anti-tumor role in tumor tissues. With tumor progression, macrophages gradually transform from the anti-tumor M1 macrophages to the tumor-promoting M2 macrophages.M2 macrophages further promote tumor proliferation and invasion,forming a positive feedback regulatory system. MicroRNA ( miRNA ) has been shown to play an important role in the development and immune regulation of glioma in recent years. However, the complex Bidirectional regulation between miRNA and TAMs has not been fully elucidated. On the one hand, glioma cells regulate the polarization of TAMs by secreting miRNAs, which may be related to hypoxia, STAT3, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, etc.On the other hand, TAMs-derived miRNAs can also reversely regulate the biological behavior of glioma cells. This article systematically reviews the molecular mechanism and research progress of the interaction between miRNA and TAMs in the glioma microenvironment, and provides a theoretical basis for the development of new therapeutic strategies targeting TAMs or miRNA.
