Advances in Understanding the Role of Klotho Protein in Ischemic Stroke

    Abstract: The Klotho gene is a recently discovered anti-aging gene. It encodes a transmembrane protein with potent anti-aging properties. Research indicates that Klotho protein is involved in the pathogenesis and progression of various diseases, including vascular calcification, atherosclerosis, hypertension, renal injury, hyperparathyroidism, diabetes, and tumors, and exerts anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and vasculoprotective effects. Studies suggest that Klotho protein is closely related to the pathophysiological processes of ischemic stroke (IS). This study investigates the association between Klotho protein and ischemic stroke, aiming to provide new insights for the prediction, diagnosis, and treatment of ischemic stroke.
