Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical value of pharmaceutical science popularization interventions conducted by clinical pharmacists in the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke patients. Methods Patients with acute cerebral infarction admitted to the Department of Cerebrovascular Diseases at Qingyuan Peoples Hospital were prospectively enrolled. After screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, they were randomly assigned to the control group and the intervention group.. The control group received routine health education from medical staff, while the intervention group received additional systematic pharmaceutical science popularization interventions provided by clinical pharmacists. Medication adherence, stroke recurrence rate, modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores, and the incidence of adverse drug reactions were compared between the two groups at 1 month and 6 months after discharge. Results A total of 227 patients were enrolled. During follow-up, 5 patients were lost, leaving 222 patients who completed the study (control group: 118; intervention group: 104). At both 1 month and 6 months after discharge, medication adherence scores were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in stroke recurrence rate, the proportion of patients with mRS scores≤2, or the incidence of adverse drug reactions (P>0.05). Conclusion Systematic pharmaceutical science popularization intervention conducted by clinical pharmacists significantly improved medication adherence in patients with ischemic stroke after discharge, thereby providing crucial support for the effective implementation of secondary prevention.
