Abstract: Palpitation is a common clinical symptom, and its pathogenesis lies in the imbalance of qi, blood, yin and yang of the heart. Based on the theory of visceral manifestation and qi-blood in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), this paper systematically discusses the theoretical connotation and clinical feasibility of the method of Benefiting Qi, Warming Yang and Stabilizing Palpitation in treating palpitations. It is believed that deficiency of heart qi and weakness of heart yang are the fundamental pathogenesis of palpitations, leading to weak propulsion, failure of warming, and restlessness of the spirit, resulting in palpitations. The method takes qi as the commander of blood, yang governing warming, and the heart storing the spirit as its theoretical core, aiming to restore the propelling function by benefiting heart qi, assist the warming and moving function by warming heart yang, and calm the spirit with sedative herbs to achieve both root and branch treatment. Modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that the core drugs of this method, such as Astragalus, Cinnamon Twig, and Honey-fried Licorice, have multiple effects including cardiotonic, improving coronary circulation, regulating autonomic nerve function, and anti-arrhythmia, which are highly consistent with TCM theory. By reviewing the theoretical origin, understanding of pathogenesis, formula composition, and modern research of this method, and supporting it with typical medical cases, this paper aims to provide sufficient theoretical and practical basis for the clinical application of the method of Benefiting Qi, Warming Yang and Stabilizing Palpitation in treating palpitations, especially those with heart qi deficiency accompanied by yang deficiency.
