Abstract: 【Abstract】Objective To explore the effect of a hierarchical and progressive teaching method on improving the clinical competency of physicians training in echocardiography. Methods A total of 36 physicians specializing in echocardiography who underwent training between January 2022 and December 2024 were selected as the experimental group and received the hierarchical and progressive teaching method. The teaching content was divided into three phases based on difficulty: basic, advanced, and intensive. Participants were assigned to corresponding teaching levels according to their initial assessment scores. During the training process, teaching phases and content were dynamically adjusted based on periodic evaluation results. A control group of 34 physicians who received traditional teaching methods between January 2019 and December 2021 was used for comparison. The final assessment scores of both groups were compared, and a satisfaction questionnaire on the teaching method was administered to the experimental group. Results The theoretical scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (93.4 ± 1.5 vs. 90.8 ± 3.2; P < 0.001), and their practical skill scores were also significantly improved (89.8 ± 2.9 vs. 81.2 ± 2.7; P < 0.001). The concordance rate of ultrasound diagnoses in the experimental group (95%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (89%) (P < 0.001), while the rate of missed and misdiagnoses (5%) was lower than that of the control group (9%) (P < 0.001). The teaching satisfaction survey showed that 94.4% (34/36) of the trainees in the experimental group considered the hierarchical and progressive teaching method highly necessary, 97.2% (35/36) believed that this teaching method significantly improved their ability to diagnose common diseases using echocardiography, 94.4% (34/36) thought that the instructors in the department had highly professional teaching skills, and 83.3% (30/36) believed they could competently perform clinical work upon returning to their original units. Conclusion The hierarchical and progressive teaching model demonstrates favorable educational outcomes and high satisfaction among physicians training in echocardiography. It can rapidly develop clinically competent trainees within a short period.
