Results Compared with interns, Gepeisheng had better identification and comprehensive diagnosis ability of chronic kidney disease and its complications (P<0.05). Functional holistic teaching significantly improved professional graduate students comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms and targets of pharmacological interventions for chronic kidney disease and its complications compared with students in traditional clinical leadership (P<0.05). Conclusion Compared with undergraduate internship students, internal medicine specialty graduate students were more capable of receiving functional holistic teaching, and functional holistic teaching significantly improved students comprehensive understanding of the management of chronic kidney disease and its complications compared with traditional clinical teaching.
