Abstract: Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein 1 (secreted frizzled-related protein 1, SFRP1), a member of the secreted glycoprotein SFRP family, is a prototypic gene regulating cell growth, development, and transformation, with broad expression in human cells. As a secreted glycoprotein, SFRP1 shares homology with the binding site of Wnt pathway components for Frizzled-related receptors on the cell surface, thus acting competitively. SFRP1 functions as an antagonist of the Wnt signaling pathway, thereby interfering with Wnt signal transduction and playing a significant role in cellular processes such as growth and apoptosis. In the context of the Wnt pathway, SFRP1 acts as an inhibitor of signal transduction, and evidence suggests its involvement in respiratory system diseases. Recent studies have revealed a close association between SFRP1 and the onset and prognosis of lung diseases. This review summarizes the latest research on the role and mechanisms of SFRP1 in the development of lung diseases.
