Application Effect of Surface Navigation Method Combined with Peyton’s Four-Step Teaching Method in Wrist Joint Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Teaching

    Abstract: Objective To explore the application effect of surface navigation method combined with Peyton’s four-step teaching method in wrist musculoskeletal ultrasound teaching, so as to provide a reference for improving the quality of ultrasound teaching.Methods A total of 38 undergraduate standardized training physicians rotating in the Department of Ultrasound of our hospital from September 2024 to December 2025 were enrolled and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group by the random number table method, with 19 physicians in each group. The control group adopted the traditional teaching mode of explanation, demonstration and imitation. On the basis of traditional teaching, the observation group was taught with the combination of surface navigation method and Peyton’s four-step teaching method. The training cycle of both groups was 4 weeks. The evaluation indicators included theoretical assessment scores, practical operation scores, scanning time, image quality, and comprehensive teaching satisfaction scores.Results After training, the theoretical scores and total practical operation scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group. The single-site scanning time of the observation group was significantly shorter, and the image quality score was significantly higher than those of the control group . The total teaching satisfaction score of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (all P < 0.001). Effect size analysis showed that the Cohen’s d values of all evaluation dimensions ranged from 0.772 to 1.681, all reaching the large effect level.Conclusion The combined teaching mode of surface navigation method and Peyton’s four-step teaching method can significantly improve the theoretical knowledge and clinical operation ability of standardized training physicians in wrist musculoskeletal ultrasound, shorten ultrasound scanning time, optimize image quality, and improve teaching satisfaction, which has favorable application and promotion value in clinical teaching.
