Title: Application of BOPPPS Combined with Scenario Simulation Teaching Method in Cultivating Anesthesiology Residents Ability to Manage Perioperative Hypoxemia

    Abstract: Abstract Objective To explore the effectiveness of applying the BOPPPS teaching model combined with scenario simulation in cultivating anesthesiology residents competency in managing perioperative hypoxemia. Methods A total of 24 anesthesiology residents of Grade 2022~2025 from Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University were randomly divided into an observation group (n=12, receiving the BOPPPS combined with scenario simulation teaching method) and a control group (n=12, receiving the traditional teaching method). The teaching content focused on the analysis of causes and clinical management of perioperative oxygen desaturation. Post-test scores and course satisfaction rates were compared between the two groups. Results The observation group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores in theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and total score compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Satisfaction rates regarding the cultivation of clinical thinking (91.7%) and the teaching model itself (83.3%) were also significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (41.7%, 33.3%; P < 0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were found between the two groups in terms of stimulating learning interest, enhancing learning efficiency, and knowledge acquisition (P > 0.05). Conclusion The BOPPPS teaching model combined with scenario simulation can effectively improve the theoretical and practical abilities of anesthesiology residents, strengthen the cultivation of clinical thinking, and is well-received by trainees, demonstrating high potential for broader application.
