Discussion on glaucoma probation for medical students

    Abstract: Objective To explore the feasibility of glaucoma probation teaching in Ophthalmology Day Ward.Methods 45 medical students from Capital Medical University who participated in ophthalmic internships at Xuanwu Hospital in 2019 were selected. After completing theoretical lectures, they were grouped for glaucoma internships in the ophthalmic day ward. Guide teacher to screen typical cases in advance for daytime hospitalization, use OCT technology to capture real-time images of the anterior chamber angle and upload them for sharing, and synchronously mark the key points of the anterior chamber angle to explain anatomical characteristics to medical students. After laser treatment, the patient used OCT technology again to capture angle images. Guide teacher explains the changes in eye structure before and after laser treatment for glaucoma patients.Result 45 medical students completed the survey questionnaire. 45 (100%) believe that day ward internship teaching would help improve their understanding of glaucoma disease, 45 (100%) believe that this learning method can stimulate everyones interest in learning glaucoma, and 44 (97.8%) believe that this teaching method has significant advantages compared to traditional outpatient teaching.Conclusion It is feasible to carry out glaucoma case teaching in the daytime ward, and teaching tasks can be completed efficiently and with high quality. This teaching model has effectively improved the quality of medical talent cultivation, make better use of medical resources, and inject new vitality into the development of medical education.
