Abstract: Objective: To investigate the influencing factors of the medical expense burden of the dead inpatients. Methods: The quantile regression model was constructed using the first page data of the medical records of the dead inpatients in Shenzhen Western Medical Hospital from 2017 to 2021 to estimate the impact of age, gender, medical payment methods and other variables on medical expenses under different medical expense levels. Results: At the 0.5 quantile level, the medical expense burden of the dead inpatients who were male, the younger the age, the more tertiary hospitals visited, the number of diseases and the number of days in hospital were greater; With the improvement of the quantile level, the impact of medical insurance payment on the medical expense burden of hospitalized patients has changed from negative to positive. Conclusion: The burden of medical expenses on female and elderly hospitalized dead patients is lower; Medical insurance participation may promote the occurrence of ineffective medical treatment and excessive medical treatment; The increase in the number of diseases has promoted the burden of medical expenses on hospitalized dead patients. We should develop and improve hospice care services, promote the transformation of death concepts, and pay attention to the impact of multiple diseases on the risk of hospital death.
