Abstract: Based on the data of Charls database in 2013, 2015 and 2018, this study evaluates the actual impact of long-term care insurance on medical service utilization, medical burden and health of the elderly in 13 pilot cities by applying descriptive statistics and difference -in-difference model as identification strategy. The results showed that long-term care insurance could significantly reduce the number of hospitalization and increase the outpatient visits and costs, but had no significant effect on the hospitalization costs, self-rated health and depression (P > 0.05). Exploring the effective connection between long-term nursing insurance and medical care plays an important role in reducing the medical burden of the insured middle-aged and elderly people, reducing social hospitalization and improving health status.
