Abstract: Objective To observe the performance of an age-stratified anesthesia strategy for comfortable oral care with respect to treatment completion, adverse reactions, recovery time and patient evaluation. Methods Clinical records of 125 patients who received oral treatment at our comfortable care center from June 2025 to August 2026 were reviewed retrospectively. By age and developmental stage, 83 children/adolescents aged 3–17 years receiving tracheal intubation general anesthesia were assigned to the GA group, and 42 adults aged 18 years or older receiving intravenous sedation with remimazolam plus dexmedetomidine to the IVS group. Demographic data, anesthesia parameters, intraoperative vital signs, recovery time, complications, post-anesthesia discharge score (PADS) and satisfaction were collected and analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Results All 125 patients completed planned treatments uneventfully with stable intraoperative vital signs, no severe respiratory or circulatory depression, laryngospasm or aspiration. Operation duration, induction time, recovery time and post-procedure observation stay were longer in the GA group than in the IVS group (P<0.05), while PADS scores were comparable between groups (P>0.05). The overall adverse reaction rate was 2.4%, all mild, with no statistically significant difference (P>0.05). Anesthesia success rate was 100% in every case, and no significant inter-subgroup differences were found across six age strata for recovery time, adverse events or satisfaction (P>0.05). Conclusion This age-stratified anesthesia protocol for comfortable oral care is safe and feasible, with GA for children/adolescents and IVS for adults producing few adverse reactions and high patient acceptance. It addresses the specific physiological and psychological characteristics of each age group well, and is suitable for wider clinical adoption.
