Abstract: Root canal therapy is the most effective treatment for pulp disease and periapical disease currently. Root canal irrigation is a crucial step in this process, which can remove debris from the root canal, clean areas not reached by mechanical preparation, eliminate the smear layer, and disinfect the root canal. Laser therapy has become a new approach in clinical practice and photon-induced photo-acoustic streaming (PIPS) is a root canal irrigation technique with significant advantages in removing bacteria, debris, and smear layer from the root canal, as well as in sealing the root canal with medication. This article reviews the latest application progress of PIPS in root canal agitation in recent years.
