Abstract: Objective:To explore the impact of intravitreal injection therapy on visual-related quality of life and ocular surface in patients with macular edema caused by ischemic superior temporal branch retinal vein occlusion.Methods:120 patients were selected who visited the ophthalmology department of the Affiliated Hospital of Chengde Medical College from December 2023 to November 2024 and met the criteria for ischemic superior temporal branch retinal vein occlusion with macular edema through dilated pupil fundus examination, OCT,and fluorescein fundus angiography.Among them, there were 67 males and 53 females. After obtaining full informed consent, the enrolled patients were randomly divided into an observation group (60 cases) and a control group (60 cases) using a random number table method. The observation group underwent intravitreal drug injection therapy, using the drug Ranibizumab Injection, with a dosage of 0.5mg per injection, administered through intravitreal injection. The control group received retinal laser photocoagulation treatment with a spot diameter of 200-400μm, energy of 140-200mw,laser exposure time of 0.2-0.3s,and output power of 2-3 level spot response. Both groups were treated by the same physician, and changes in visual acuity, scores on the visual function-related quality of life scale, and scores on the visual analog scale were observed before treatment and one month after treatment completion. Results:Best corrected visual acuity: After treatment, the improvement in visual acuity in the observation group was significantly better than that in the control group (P<0.05).Visual function-related quality of life scale questionnaire: After treatment, the observation group showed an upward trend in all 12 dimensions compared to the pre-treatment group (P<0.05);after treatment, the control group showed an upward trend in all dimensions except for ocular discomfort compared to the pre-treatment group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05);in the comparison between the two groups after treatment, the observation group was significantly better than the control group in all dimensions except for overall health, ocular discomfort, driving, and mental health (P<0.05).Conclusion:Intravitreal drug injection is more effective than traditional fundus laser therapy in improving patientsvisual-related quality of life and ocular surface status when macular edema caused by ischemic temporal superior branch retinal vein occlusion.
