Abstract: To identify the research hotspots and development trends in the field of humanistic literacy education for medical students in China, this study takes relevant literatures from CNKI and Wanfang Database during 2005-2025 as the research objects, and conducts visual analysis using CiteSpace 6.3.R1 software. A total of 3,839 valid literatures were included, and the results show that: the annual number of published papers in this field presents an overall growth trend, with a stepped growth phase from 2005 to 2018 and a slight decline from 2019 to 2025; the research subjects are mainly medical colleges and medical-related departments of comprehensive universities, among which Dalian Medical University, Nanjing Medical University and other institutions have made prominent achievements in research output. Most researches are carried out independently by a single institution or through collaboration between departments within a university, while inter-institutional and cross-regional cooperation remains relatively weak; the high-frequency core Keywords include medical students, humanistic education, humanistic spirit, medical education, doctor-patient relationship, curriculum-based ideological and political education and so on, and Keywords with high centrality highlight the core orientation of research in this field; policy-driven factors play an important role in the development of this field, and the research presents three evolutionary characteristics, namely the educational content conforming to the needs of the times, the educational objectives focusing on spiritual cultivation, and the educational methods emphasizing clinical practice. Future research will further strengthen cross-regional and inter-institutional academic cooperation, closely align with the needs of medical education reform, and promote the coordinated improvement of humanistic literacy and professional competence of medical students.
