Abstract: Abstract: Purpose/Significance This paper explores embedded information literacy education throughout the progression of medical PhD professional course by adopting the IDEA instructional design approach, evaluates the effectiveness of the course through quality analysis of literature review assignments and feedback from teacher and students, so as to demonstrate the effectiveness of applying the IDEA model to medical advanced course. Method/Process Based on the syllabus analysis and interview with the instructor, this paper designs the course by identifying information goals, objectives, and content, gradually embeds the information literacy content according to the plan, and modifies and optimizes the methods and contents of embedded instruction based on formative and summative assessments. The course effectiveness is evaluated by comparing the literature review assignments of PhD students who participated in embedded courses and those who did not participate in the courses, as well as evaluating the feedback from teacher and students. Result/Conclusion Compared with the control group, the embedded class showed significant improvements in topic novelty, keywords standardization, reference selection, and citation criteria. Teacher indicated a significant increase in time dedicated to course content and decrease in time dedicated to teaching and monitoring research tasks and activities, as well as an improvement in work quality and grades among the students. Practice has proved that the IDEA model is effective when applied to advanced course for medical PhD students.
