Abstract: Vascular Depression (VD) is a psychiatric disorder caused by cerebrovascular lesions (e.g., ischemic injury, white matter lesions, or microcirculatory disorders, etc.), with sleep disorders, loss of interest, depressed mood, and memory loss as the core clinical symptoms , and modern medical science suggests that its pathogenesis is closely related to the functional disorders of the prefrontal-limbic neural loop caused by cerebrovascular lesions. Modern medicine believes that its pathogenesis is closely related to the cerebrovascular lesions leading to prefrontal-limbic system neurological disorders. Chinese medicine believes that vascular depression is closely related to the heart and brain, recognizing that the heart is the master of God, and the heart and brain are connected, and God is the master of the heart and brain, and the heart is the master of the blood, and the brain and God are moistened and nourished, and the brain is the instrument of the heart and God, and the material basis of the heart and Gods activities. The two are connected through the meridians to form a whole system of “heart-brain connection”. If the deficiency of heart qi and loss of kidney essence due to the weakness of the five viscera in old age and the stagnation of heart veins and brain channels due to the poor operation of qi and blood in old age lead to the loss of nourishment of the heart and the lack of movement of the divine mechanism, the loss of the brain marrow and the loss of use of the divine, which will ultimately be manifested as depression, slow thinking, sleeplessness at night, and other abnormal symptoms of the spirit and mind. Based on the theory of heart-brain treatment, this article starts from the physiological interaction of heart masters the blood to nourish the brain and brain is the divine mechanism to unify the heart, and systematically explores the core mechanism of heart-brain dysfunction in the pathogenesis of vascular depression, so as to provide theoretical basis for the treatment of vascular depression in Chinese medicine from the theory of heart-brain.
