Abstract: Objective To investigate the difference in therapeutic efficacy between modified outer sleeve catheter stripping surgery and intracavitary laser treatment for primary great saphenous varicose vein. Method Retrospective analysis of clinical data of patients admitted to the Affiliated Peoples Hospital of Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2023 to June 2024 who underwent surgery for unilateral great saphenous varicose veins and randomly divided into a modified catheter stripping group (n=65) and a laser treatment group (n=65) according to the random number table method. The modified catheter stripping group used a guide wire to assist in stripping the main trunk of the great saphenous vein, while the laser treatment group used laser intracavitary ablation to close the main trunk of the great saphenous vein. The surgical duration, intraoperative blood loss, 1-week postoperative pain score, and incidence of postoperative complications were observed in both groups.Compare the VCSS and AVVQ scores of two groups of patients 12 month after surgery. Result Comparison between the two groups showed no statistically significant difference (P>0.05) in terms of surgical duration, intraoperative blood loss, 1-week postoperative pain score. There was no statistically significant difference in most of the postoperative complications (P>0.05),except the postoperative subcutaneous cord like induration which was less in modified catheter stripping group than in the laser treatment group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in VCSS and AVVQ scores between the two groups of patients 12 month after surgery compared to before surgery (P<0.05).Conclusion The modified outer sleeve catheter stripping surgery has the advantages of minimally invasive and fast recovery, while solving some of the drawbacks of conventional catheter stripping, making the surgical process smoother. This technique is worthy of further promotion and application in clinical practice.
