A retrospective study on the clinical effect of the impression method with silicone impression material for complete denture of edentulous elderly patients

  Abstract: Objective To retrospectively analyze the application of the impression method with silicone impression material to the clinical satisfaction of complete denture for edentulous elderly patients.Methods Patients who underwent complete denture restoration in Stamotological Department of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University from January 2023 to January 2024 were analyzed. They were grouped by whether the silicone impression material was used, the patient gender, the position of upper or lower jaw and the classification of edentulous jaw. A return visit was conducted one week after wearing the complete denture.Fill in the clinical effect satisfaction questionnaire to analyze the clinical effect satisfaction of complete denture made via silicone impression material.Results According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 53 cases (24 males and 29 females,average age:76 years old) were selected for effective return visits.The survey on the satisfaction of clinical effect of edentulous denture showed that the satisfaction of clinical effect of edentulous denture made via silicone impression method was higher than that of edentulous denture made by alginate impression method, with statistical significance (P=0.036;P<0.05), and there was no interaction between silicone impression method and other factors(P>0.05).Conclusion For the edentulous denture restoration of patients with edentulous jaws, especially for the edentulous jaws classied with Class III and IV , the silicone impression material should be selected routinely to fabricate the edentulous denture to improve the denture restoration effect in eldly patients.
