Abstract: This paper collected 301 research papers related to COVID-19, which were collected from abstract databases, preprint platforms, publisher’s websites and journal platforms, during Jan, 2020 to Feb. 11st, 2020. With statistical and descriptive analyzing, the results showed that after the COVID-19 outbreak, the papers were published quickly and the quantity was increasing rapidly; the numbers of related papers were different from abstract databases; the Chinese scholars gave the largest contribution of papers; topics of research papers were focused; various papers types were shown; the papers mainly published on the preprint platforms and the leading journals; open access to research papers accelerated research exchange and sharing during early COVID-19 outbreak. This paper suggested that Chinese preprint platforms should play a vital role on the sharing of research papers. Various patterns of research paper publishing should be encouraged. And academic libraries should promote open academic publishing services.
