Abstract: As a progressive interstitial lung disease, the etiology of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) remains unclear, and to date, there is no cure. This condition can be classified under the categories of “lung bi” and “lung wi” in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Based on the patterns of its pathogenesis, the nature of this disease is characterized by “deficiency at the root and excess at the branch.” The fundamental pathogenesis involves deficiency of the zang-fu organs and qi deficiency with qi stagnation, while the pathological key lies in the retention of fluid and phlegm-stasis. The therapeutic principle is to “fortify the healthy and expel the pathogenic,” combining the tonification of qi and the resolution of stagnation with the drainage ofdampness, transformation of fluid, and the elimination of phlegm and stasis. During acute exacerbations, emphasis is placed on dispelling external pathogens, yielding significant therapeutic results. A clinical case is provided below to support this approach.
