Abstract: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common spinal condition whose incidence gradually increases with age. Modic changes (MCs), as a frequent imaging manifestation of the vertebral endplate, have attracted significant attention in the context of LDH. This article summarizes the classification and progression, pathophysiological mechanisms, and the relationship between MCs and LDH, while also briefly discussing related treatment strategies. The aim is to provide a reference for the future diagnosis and management of LDH accompanied by Modic changes.
