Meta-analysis of Diversified Acupuncture and Medication Therapy for Vascular Dementia

    Abstract: Abstract Objective: To systematically explore the comprehensive efficacy and safety of diversified acupuncture methods combined with traditional Chinese medicine formulas in the treatment of vascular dementia (VaD). Methods: Clinical studies on the treatment of VaD with acupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine were retrieved from Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Wanfang Data, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and VIP databases. A double-blind literature screening process was established, and the Cochrane bias risk assessment tool was used for quality evaluation. RevMan 5.4.1 was used for analysis. Results: A total of 21 articles were included, involving 1579 cases. The study systematically evaluated the cognitive function and safety indicators of patients with vascular dementia. The meta-analysis results showed that the combined treatment of diversified acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine is superior to the conventional western medicine group in improving the clinical effective rate, MMSE and ADL scores, and reducing the TCM syndrome score, HIS, Hcy level and inflammatory factors. Moreover, it has fewer adverse reactions. and had fewer adverse reactions.Conclusion: Compared with the sole application of Western medicine, the diversified treatment combining acupuncture and medication for VaD exhibits favorable efficacy and safety. Moreover, it can regulate the Hcy level and various inflammatory factors in the serum of patients.Keywords: Acupuncture; Traditional Chinese Medicine; Vascular Dementia; Meta-analysis
