Advances in Exhaled Breath Condensate for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

    Abstract: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common chronic respiratory disease characterized by persistent airflow limitation. With approximately 384 million patients worldwide, it imposes a substantial burden on society. Exhaled Breath Condensate (EBC) has emerged as a non-invasive, safe, and reproducible technique for collecting airway lining fluid, demonstrating significant potential for early screening of COPD, identification of inflammatory phenotypes, prediction of acute exacerbation risk, and evaluation of drug efficacy. This review systematically summarizes recent advancements in the research of various biomarkers in EBC and explores the prospects of integrating multi-omics technologies, aiming to provide a theoretical foundation for the clinical application of EBC in the precision diagnosis and treatment of COPD.
