Research Progress on Autophagy-Dependent Ferroptosis in Cancer

    Abstract: Autophagy is a vital process involved in cellular and tissue regeneration, exhibiting various mechanisms of action in different tumor cells. Ferroptosis is a form of non-apoptotic cell death characterized by iron accumulation and excessive lipid peroxidation. Excessive autophagy can trigger ferroptosis in cancer cells, a phenomenon referred to as autophagy-dependent ferroptosis. As an emerging mechanism of cell death, this article primarily elucidates the anti-tumor mechanisms of autophagy-dependent ferroptosis through recent advancements involving natural compounds, nanomaterials, and gene interference, aiming to provide new strategies and insights for cancer therapy.
