Abstract: The designation of acupuncture and moxibustion as a first-level professional degree discipline signals a new developmental stage for the field and imposes higher demands on the quality of standardized residency training (SRT). Post-competency, regarded as the hallmark of the third-generation medical education reform, represents the integrated knowledge, skills, and qualities required for clinical practice. The WORLD teaching model (Working, Observing, Researching, Learning, and Department visits) offers a multidimensional and three-dimensional pedagogical approach with notable advantages in cultivating comprehensive competencies. Grounded in the context of New Medical Education, this study takes post-competency as the core orientation and leverages the academic heritage of the Yanjing Acupuncture School together with the clinical strengths of the department to reconstruct the generic WORLD model into an acupuncture-specific framework. A five-dimension integrated mentoring system-encompassing clinical practice, expert observation, research empowerment, self-directed learning, and cross-departmental collaboration-has been established, with six core post-competencies (clinical manipulation ability, pattern-differentiation and acupoint-selection thinking, physician-patient communication, scientific research thinking, school-heritage transmission, and clinical emergency management) precisely mapped onto the five WORLD components. Practice demonstrates that this model effectively addresses the limitations of the traditional one-on-one apprenticeship, facilitating the transition of acupuncture SRT from experience-based transmission to systematic, feature-oriented, and competency-based cultivation, thereby providing a replicable and scalable paradigm for pedagogical innovation in acupuncture SRT in the new era.
