Abstract: Malignant ascites is as a serious complication of advanced hepatic malignancy. In this article, we think that qi, blood and water (dampness) are the main factors in the formation of malignant ascites, and its pathogenesis is mainly “unsmooth blood circulation results in water retention” and “disorder of qi”, with disorder of qi, stasis of blood, and retained fluid as the main causes of the disease, and the treatment principle of malignant ascites is summarized as: removing blood stasis and resolving retained fluid, treating by dispersing the liver and regulating qi, activating blood circulation and eliminating blood stasis; warming yang and eliminating retained fluid, and promoting urination and draining dampness as the basic law, and applies in clinic, which achieves favorable therapeutic effect. Now we summarise the relevant experience, in order to provide ideas for the clinical treatment of malignant ascites in Chinese medicine.
