Abstract: Objective To review the construction of the classification system of EQ-HWB and provide a reference for domestic scholars to study new international measures and accumulate experience in measure development. Methods Databases including PubMed, Embase, CNKI and Wanfang were searched to include all the articles for developing the EQ-HWB. Then the methods and revelations of the development of EQ-HWB were sorted out and summarized. Results A total of 11 English articles were included. The classification system of EQ-HWB is constructed through four steps: identifying dimensions, generating candidate item pool, face validation, and psychometric testing. Its construction experience inspires future developers to identify dimensions based on a wide range of sources and transparent processes, and to generate items focusing on the readability, consistency and rationality. Furthermore, it should be cautious to set subgroup samples and analysis indicators when doing psychometric validation. Conclusion EQ-HWB can broadly measure health-related quality of life, Well-being, social care-related quality of life, and caregiver-related quality of life by incorporating rich dimensions. However, its measurement property and application scenarios, especially the performance in Chinese population, still need further exploration and research.
