Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupotomy combined with Gegen–Jianghuang Powder in the treatment of neck-type cervical spondylosis and to analyze its effects on pain relief, functional improvement, and enhancement of quality of life. Methods: A total of 70 patients with neck-type cervical spondylosis who were treated in the Department of Spine Surgery II of the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine from May 2024 to July 2025 were enrolled and randomly assigned to a treatment group (acupotomy combined with Gegen–Jianghuang Powder) or a control group (acupotomy alone), with 33 patients in each group. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, and clinical evaluation scale for cervical spondylosis were used to evaluate both groups before and after treatment. Adverse reactions were also recorded. Results: After treatment, both groups showed significant improvements in all evaluated indicators compared with baseline, and the treatment group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in VAS, NDI, TCM syndrome scores, and clinical evaluation scale scores than the control group (P < 0.05). The total effective rate in the treatment group was 90.63%, which was significantly higher than that in the control group (69.70%) (P < 0.05). Mild needle-induced dizziness occurred in one patient in each group and resolved after brief rest; no other serious adverse reactions were observed. Conclusion: Acupotomy combined with Gegen–Jianghuang Powder can significantly relieve pain, improve cervical function, and alleviate clinical symptoms in patients with neck-type cervical spondylosis. It demonstrates good safety and superior clinical efficacy compared with acupotomy alone, and thus warrants further clinical application and promotion.
