Research Progress of Metformin in the Field of Anti-Aging

    Abstract: With the intensification of the aging population trend, research on anti-aging drugs has become increasingly in-depth. Metformin, a widely used hypoglycemic drug, has shown great potential in the field of anti-aging in recent years. Studies have shown that metformin can exert anti-aging effects through multiple mechanisms, including regulating the AMPK and mTOR signaling pathways, anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress, delaying telomere shortening, and promoting the expression of SIRT genes. In preclinical studies, metformin has extended the lifespan of various animal models and reduced the risk of occurrence and mortality of multiple aging-related diseases. This review aims to analyze and summarize the molecular mechanisms and research progress of metformin in the field of anti-aging, providing a reference for further research and presenting prospects for its future research directions.
