The intraocular pressure lowering effects of ROCK inhibitor: the current concepts and perspectives

  Abstract: Glaucoma causes irreversible blindness worldwide. High intraocular pressure (IOP) is its main risk factor. Lowering IOP strategies, including medication, laser, or surgery, can delay the process of glaucomatous optic nerve injury. Currently, glaucoma medication is still the first line non-invasive treatment. In recent decades, with the understanding of the Rho/Rho kinase signaling pathway in regulation of aqueous outflow from trabecular meshwork, Rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitors have attracted more attentions as novel anti-glaucoma candidates. The purpose of this review is to summarize the current concepts of ROCK inhibitors, a novel target for glaucoma therapy.
