Abstract: The wei qi moves in the yang during the day and in the yin at night, with a prominent temporal rhythm, and has important functions such as defense, warmth, and consolidation. Based on the theory of wei qi movement, this article believes that the temporal rhythm plays an important role in the pathogenesis of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Modern research has confirmed that insufficient sleep and nocturnal eating habits can increase the risk of GERD, and esophageal motility and mucosal repair are regulated by the biological clock. The wei qi is generated by the spleen and stomach. When the spleen and stomach function well, the wei qi is abundant. Conversely, if the movement of the wei qi is abnormal (such as the yang not entering the yin), it can lead to the disorder of the qi movement in the middle burner, the upward rush of stomach qi, and the triggering of GERD. It is proposed to treat GERD under the guidance of the theory of wei qi, while regulating the ascending and descending of the spleen and stomach, taking into account the qi movement of the liver and lungs, and regulating the triple burner; combined with acupuncture and life care, ultimately achieving the balance of form and spirit, in order to improve its clinical efficacy.
