Abstract: Chronic sinusitis in children tends to have a prolonged and recurrent course. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has distinctive features and advantages in treating this disease. Physician Huang Jincheng classifies chronic sinusitis in children into two stages for syndrome differentiation and treatment: the acute exacerbation stage and the prolonged recurrent stage. He modifies prescriptions according to accompanying symptoms, while emphasizing the holistic concept and simultaneous consideration of root causes and symptoms. During the acute exacerbation stage, the treatment focuses on relieving symptoms as the primary goal with appropriate attention to addressing the root cause; in the prolonged recurrent stage, equal importance is attached to both. He has formulated Biyuan No.1 Decoction and Biyuan No.2 Decoction, which are characterized by mild and effective medicinal properties, achieving excellent clinical results. This article introduces Physician Huang’s clinical experience in treating chronic sinusitis in children, analyzes his syndrome differentiation thinking as well as the characteristics of his therapeutic principles, prescriptions, and medications, for readers’ reference.
