Abstract: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that mainly affects the middle and large arteries, which constitutes an important pathological basis for the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Oxidative stress plays a role in promoting the development of atherosclerosis in many aspects, such as endothelial dysfunction, intimal lipid deposition, inflammation and vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. Nu-clear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a transcription factor with anti-oxidative stress, which is involved in the regulation of cellular inflammatory response and lipid metabolism, and is closely related to endothelial cell injury and foam cell formation. It has a dual regulatory effect on atherosclerosis. This review provides an in-depth analysis of the role of Nrf2 in oxidative stress-induced atherosclerosis.
