Abstract: Macrophages are a group of immune cells with heterogeneity and plasticity, which can differentiate into different phenotypes in different environments. M2 macrophages exert anti-inflammatory effects by affecting the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 and CCL17, and play a role in efferocytosis and scavenging mannosylated ligands. This article focuses on the relationship between M2 polarization of macrophages and the resolution phase of inflammation, in-depth studies on the mechanism and role of macrophage polarization and the characteristics of the resolution phase of inflammation, elucidates the role of M2 macrophages in inflammation, discusses the healthy qi and pathogenic qi nature of different macrophages in the development of inflammation, and analyzes the feasibility of inducing M2 polarization of macrophages in the resolution phase.
